Roel Voorbij has been active in theatre since he was 12 years old. Starting at the Rotterdam Youth Theatre Hofplein, he studied Theatre at the Amsterdam Theatre Academy, followed by completing the internationally recognised Amsterdam School of the Arts, Mime Education (Mime corporel, not pantomime) in 2005.

The projects Roel entertains are mostly developed through improvisation, created from a concept and shared philosophy with several directors. He performs all over Europe, Morocco, New York and Australia. His most recent theatre performance has been Spectaculaire voorstelling with Theatre group Oostpool, Bianca van der Schoot and Suzan Boogaerdt. the Milieubende directed by Moniek Merkx and Dorien Folkers and Meeuwen van Tinbergen by Cowboy bij nacht. His work with Theatre group WAK brought him to Australia with Levelles, Loop and Nothing is really difficult. Roel directed Casadamtogether with Arnica Elsendoorn, an exchange project between Morocco and the Netherlands. And won the juryprize at the FITUC (Festival Internationale Theatre Universitaire du Casablance) with his graduation solo piece I Thought so. He starred as main character Alfred in the Golden Kalf and Tuchinski awarded movie Alfred Maassen’s last day that made it to the Cannes film festival. Roel teaches professional actors, young players and corporate clients and worked as a casting director for John Doornik casting for several years. He is currently active as a Teacher at the Acting school of Rotterdam (DAR) and the Sydney Theatre School, and a coach at the Hubstudio and the Libre Foundation. More info…

    Learn how to lose the head when performing, which can bring physical motion to a halt.
    From a simple set of tools you will start working on presence, breath, use of correct tension, space and energy, to develop dynamic awareness and find a strong neutral starting point as an actor.
